Mrs Bell H Patton
Dear Madam: Yours
of 18th inst was received yester-
day. You ask me to try to get
your husband a furlough
for a few days that he may
return to his home for the
purpose of transacting some
important business. I sin-
cerely wish that it was in
my power to comply with
your request. But will it
be right to deceive you &
tell you that the probability
is that he will get home soon?
I think it best to be candid
and inform you that
there is no telling when he
[page 2]
will be able to get home.
They will not let a man go
home for the purpose of at-
tending to private business.
it matters not how import-
ant it may be. You may be
assured that I would get
him off if it were in my
power.
Your husband & brother
are both well.
My respects to Mr. Patton
and family.
No news of importance on
the Rapid Ann. The weather
is warm and beautiful.
Most respectfully
P. P. Pease
