Weldon Wayside Hospitel December 6 1863
My Dear Wife
I reached this place last
evening safe I would of writing to you last
night but I could not get any light so I
shall try & write you a few lins this morning
I saw Jack & Charley this morning they were
on ther way to Kinston Charley was well but
Jack looked badley Dump I think that I shall
come home soon the Dr will send me on a
detaile next week to by butter & chicken if
he can possiable spare me the stuard sayed he
wished that I had of stayed a weeked longer and
of bought all the buter in the nighbor hood
I want you to get Buck to inqur about getting
butter & write to me soon & the Dr has not
herd from his detail yet the stuard is gon
to Petersburg this morning & exspect to by cloathing
I shall write to uncle Will this eavning tell
Sister Ann that I could not send her that money
this morning but I will send it in a few days
Dump I will send you the box Saterday if I can
get it on the train I have sent up to Litelton
this morning to get a pint of brandy for you if I get
it I will send it in the box

Dump Mr Aycok will go home in a few days
after potatos for the Hospital & he is to bring me
ten bushels I will send them just as soon as they
come to hand tell Buck if he has any schance to
by all the schickens that he can get & I will pay
him well for his trubel & to write me if he can get
as much as 50 lbs of butter & tell me what he can
get it at I will come after it I think if I can
get a detaile for ten days I can get butter a plenty
up there Tell Sister Jane not to spile Josephus
Dump try & get all the tobaco for me you can
I gave a parte of that I brote to Charley he was
very glad of it & our readgiment is the worst
looking pasel of men I ever saw Dr Pease sayed
that he had not had on a clean shirt in a month
you can send word to Mr Hight & tell them
whare the boys are gon to We have a greate meny
in the Hospitel at this time over a hundred
I tell you they gave me a lively time this morning
get brecfust for them Dump write to me soon
& lett me know you are get on I will write to
Mr Hight in a few days about letting you have
that salte give my love to all & kiss
Josephus for me tell him I will send him
some cake I remain as ever your devoted
