[This seems to be the last part of a letter from
Martha to Francis written on both sides of a
scrap of paper – no date.]

I expect it was a tooth Canker that the
baby had come by her not cutting her
teeth sooner it come from her jawbone
and morterfied as it went if I had
of had some of your water I could cured
her but I couldent get it and she is
ded and gone to heaven out this
troublesom world in heaven with
her brother and Jesus her savour
but I am sory to give her up oh if
I could see her one time moor
but I cant now but I will some
time and I hope we will
part no moor and I
will see my dear
little son and
all my friends
in heaven
I hope

and if we meet no moor on Earth
I want to meet you in heaven but
I do hope and pray to God that we
will be spared to see ech other
in this world again oh Lord spar
the life of my own dear husband
to return to me again soon shield
him from all harm and danger
give him somthing to eat and
ware and bless him abundently
I want you to write soon if you
please will you need any moor
socks this winter let me
know I will close
