Wm Prophet & Mary
Der father and Mother withe plesure
I drop you A fiew lines wich will in
form you we ar stationed one & half
mild from golds boro in the woods
we have sufferd considerbly from cold
since we have bin her for we had but
One blanket A pease from some three
weeks & the wether was sever and
cold we got our things A bout one week
Ago but tha wount let us have but
two tents and flies to A company and
orderd us to box up all of our things
onely what cold carry on our
backs and some boxt up thir things
and sent them to golds boro but our
mess we thout we would keep what
we had as long as we staid her for
what we have wont do much good
if tha was sent home &cc

for we dont git but half Rashins
of meat and meal and dont git
any thing else A tall and that
is close living we bie some sweet
potatoe when we can gitthem
but tha ar giting scerce & I no
you have A hard time to git along
for thar is no chance for to hire
any help and times will git wo
rse for the men up to forty is
orderd out now forth with
if tha dont come willing tha
will be forst & I want you to
do the best with mi famely that you
can til I come home if ever
I want to see you all Just as
bad as ever I wandid but thar
is no chance these lines leav
me well and do grately hope
tha will Reach you and famely
in good helth so no more but
