in camp Near peters
burg Dear wife and
family i now seat my
self to drop you a few
lines to let you o that
i am wel hopeing
when theas few lines
come to you they wil
find you all wel and
doing the best you can
i can tel you that i recei
ved two letters from you
the forth of this month
i was glad to hare from
you and to hare that
carrel got there with
my saddle you done
rite to fil his can

you all a bout me and
how i was doing i can
tel you now that i dient
have time to rite tel
now for we had to sart
in fifteen minits after
i got them for the yanks
was advancing on our
line south of peters
burg they had a fite
with them and drove
them back our redgmet
dident fite enny yet we
dis mounted to fite but
the yankys dient attact
us our infentry fout them
despertly they kild
a grate menny of them
