cort house Near peters burg
Dear wife and family
i now seat my self to inform
you that I am wel at this
time hopeing when theas lins
come to you they wil find
you wel i can say to you that
i received your kind letter
of the 5 instant i was more
then glad to hare from you
all and to hare that you was
wel for i hadent herd from
you in a long time i have
no news to rite at this time
we have left our winter
quarters we are lookin for
the yankys to make a rade
on the south side rale
rode i can tel you that

got a letter from Israel
wilson the other day he
was wel then he sed
they was a runen away
as fast as they could he sed
that Brother daniel and
losson wilson and the two loyds
and Martin has talked about
leaven i want you to tel
me hou told you that i was
a goent to cros the lines for
i want to no hou ever he
is told a ly for i never
told enny person enny
such thing for i dont expect
to go to the yankys for my home
hant there i wil try and do
the best I can and take the
best care i can of my self
and by the help of the lord
i expect to sea you all agane
if i live i expect come home
some time this spring for
I must have a nother horse

me one and do all you can
i wil now tel you some
thing about farming fix
your garden good try and get
some body to help you to fix
the fence round your garden
and plant as meny potatoes
as you can try and get some
sweat potatoes to plant let
them cost what they wil
and fix your corn ground
good before you plant your
corn i would like to bea at
home this sumer and work
my self for i no you have
a hard time but i cant help
it only do the best you can
dont plant much cotton plant
corn and by thred with it
I hardly no what to rite more
at this time one thing i want
you to do I dont want you

let wates and Jo go much
a bout the Creak without
you are with them i am
afrade they wil get drownd
tel wates and Jo I want
them to plant water melons for
me i want wates and go [1] to plant 
them a pach of corn this yare
i want you to tel me if they
have grode enny sence i left
home or not and let me if my
baby is as purty as ever and
send me a plat of its hare you
sed you coulent get enny boddy to
do your work without paying them
corn try and get paul to do some
thing for you tel him i wil pay
him for it so i must close by
teling you to rite often for i get
uneasy when i dont hare from
you so nothig more at presant
but remane yours until death
