Camp Near Kenville N. C. [1]
July 28 th 1863
Dear Mother
I seat my self to drop
you afew lines to inform you that I
reached my company at kenerville saft
I stayed at Leggett Bridg With our pickets
the night that I left Home. I left there
Sadurday Morning at Sun rise .
and I Stayed With aunt Sally Moore
Sadurday Night, I left there Sunday morning
at ten oclock and went to Tarboro and
Stayed there until two oclock in the
Eving and then I tuck the cars for
Rocky mount, and I arived at Magnolia at
one oclock Sunday Night and there I
fel in With Joeph Gibson, it cost mee
fifty cents from Tarboro to Magnolia : I had
a nice time on the cars Sunday night ,
Mother evry thin was all right With the
Captain, when I got there he was glad
to see me and here the newse from
Tarboro. We are Camped on the fare
Ground one half Mile from kenersville
We hav got abeutiful place
to Camp at, We hav got splendid

Water here. We are Eigh Miles from the
Rail Road. kenersville is the County
Seat of Duplin County . they are
fighting at Charleston yet. I heard
from ther to Day. our Regt has lost
one Man killed. the 51st Regt has lost
fifty killed, the 31st has lost thirty
killed they say that we hav killed
any quantity of the yankees, they say that
Clingman Brigad fought like Bull Dogs
on the Battle field at Charleston.
Mother tell Sophia that Joe is Well and
in fine life at this time . Mother
thies few lines leaves me Well at pres
ent. and I hope they may reach and
fined you enjoying the same great
Blessing. Giv my Best Respects to Miss
Sally. I must close Wright me as
sone as you get this Letter Wright me
all the newse. Direct your letter to
Magnolia. Duplin County N C.
