Camp Near Fedricksburg va Dec 6th 1862

Dear Father and Mother
I seat my self to drop you
a Few lines to let you Know that
I am well and hope when
these Few lines comes to hand
may Find you enjoying the
same Blessing I received your
Kind Letter 5th and was glad to
hear from You and to hear
that you was and Doing well
I received my socks and gloves
and Tobbacco and 2 sheets paper
and am Verry much oblige
to you For sending them For
I needed them verry Bad we
have Drawn clothing and I Drawd
me a over coat and one pr pants
and one shirt and pr Drawers
and 1 pr shoes and I want
you to send me them two shirts
and that comfort the First
chance you get and tell
miss Beca to send the price
of the comfort and I will
send her the money Capt
speer is Major and Neal
is our Capt he makes
us a good Captain as ever
was you wrote you was
in hopes I would get to
come home By christmas
but their aint no chance
of geting a Furlow
unless a man be sick or
wounded and if I cant

get to come home well I dont
care whether I come a tall
or not but if their is anny
chance I am a gowing to come
but if their haint I cant come
I would give Fifty Dollars
For a Furlow For thirty days just
to be home a Christmas to
get something good to Eat
and get a Dram I want
you to have a good Dinner
a Christmas an a think of
me and eat some For me
and Tell Fanny she must eat
a hole heap For me and
be a good girl and Tell John
and sam to be smart Boys
and work all they can if I was
only their to help them Id give
this world we havent got no
tents only two in the company
I have got my Blanket stretched
and it is raining and snowing
I must Bring my letter to
a close By saying I remain your
loving son till death
