Camp Gregg Va May 9th 1863

Dear Father and Mother
I take my pen in hand to
inform you that I am well and
hope when these Few lines comes to
hand may Find You enjoying the same
Blessing we have had an other Big Fight
at Fredricksburg and Whipt the Yankeys
out nice and run them a cross the
river and taken in a bout Thirty Thousand
Prisners and Killed a great many
I wasant in the the Fight I was on
Guard the mornig they left and I had
to Stay and guard the prisners that
they had in the guard house or realts [1]
I should of bin in the Fight we got
6 wounded in our company and Sargt
D C Casey is missing I expect he is
Killed or wounded I Received a
Letter From You Last Night and one
From Jane this morning it is the
First Fight that I ever have Mist since
I have bin in Service General
Jackson got his arm shot of
I must Bring My Letter to a
Close By saying write Soon and

Dear Sister
I received Your letter this morning Eavenig
and was glad to Hear From You
and to Hear that You was well
and geting along Very well I havent
any thing new of any importance
Write only the times is hard and
Worse a coming You wrote that
Jordan said it was Damd hard
a man cant get a dram I think
it is a Fine thing my self

I must Bring my letter

Soon and often

Me me so and Reynols got
wounded but not Bad I think
