Camp Gregg 28th NC Troops May 28th 1863
Dear Father and Mother I take the
Present oportunity of Droping You a Few
lines to let You Know that I am
well and hope when these Few lines
comes to hand may Find You enjoying
the same Blessing I havent had nary
letter From You since the Fight
and I have wrote 2 and havnt got
no answers Yet Capt Bohannon got
a letter From his wife and she
stated that You had bin over their
to see if Capt had wrote anny
thing a bout me that You couldent
get no letters From me I have
certainly wrote two letters to You
since the Fight For I knew that
You would be oneasy a bout me as
soon as You heard tell of the Fight
and I thought I would Write so
as You Would certainly Get one and
I have Wrote Mr Howard one since
the Fight I was not in the
Fight I was left at the old
camp to Guard some Prisners that
we had in the Guard house

I Will tell You a bout that we
Draw we Draw ½ lb Bacon to the man
Per Day and one pound and one Eight
of Flour and Peas Rice Sugar some
times I supose that You have heard
tell of the Death of General Jackson
he was wounded and Died at Guinies
Station I am the wellest and hartyest
I ever was in my life
Father I sent my Over coat to
Salisbery By a man out of our company
that was Detaild to go to salisbury
to make shoes and he said he
would take it and his wife would
come to see him and then he would
Send it by her to his house and she
could send it to huntsville and You
could get it From their his name
is Ananias Leggans he lives a bout
6 miles From huntsville up toward
Yadkinsvile I want You to get it if
You please I must Bring my Letter
to a Close By saying write soon
and Fail not I remain
