Camp Near Orange Court House
January 31st 1864
Dear Father & mother
I take the present oportunity
of droping You a Few lines
to let You Know that I
am well and hope when
these few lines comes to hand
may find You all well
I received Your Kind letter
Yesterday and was truly
glad to hear from You
and to hear that You was all
well and a Doing well I
am a doing verry well now
as long as our boxes
lasts every thing was all
Right in my box If
You ever send me an

other box dont cook the
chickins It wouldant of
taken them Long to of
Spoilt Tell John and sam
my rabit was the best thing
I had except my sausage
and they was the best I
ever saw I thought Hicks
didant charge me a cent
For Bringing the box I
want You to write in Your
next letter How much rye
and oats You sowd I
will Tell You what we
draw we are a drawing
¼ lb of Pork to the man
and a bout a pound of
corn meal we are a drawing
some Molasses and Rice

at Orange court House at
300 per Box and If You
want me to get You a
box I will and send them
to You If You want me
to get them write in Your
next Letter John I want
You and sambo to ketch
