February 24th 1864
Dear Father & mother
I take my pen in
hand to inform You that I
am well and hope when these
few lines comes to hand may
find You all enjoying the
same Blessing I Received Your
Kind letter 22ond and was truly
Glad to hear from You and
to hear that You was all well
I was sorrow that Mr Macy
couldant get me them caps
and needles and Pins but if
he gets them when he comes
back I can send them in
a letter I am glad You
sent me a pair of socks by
mr Macy For I shall need them

before long mother I sent
You a Black Ring in my
last letter and if You cant
wair it give it to Fanny
or bet but if You can wair
if I want You to Keep it
You wrote in Your last
Letter that Thomas Hunter
was dead I was mighty
sorry to hear of his death
he was such a Fine Man
and I Know it Troubles
Mrs Hunter all most to
deathe For she thought so
much of him Mother I
never have got that dollar
Yet You sent in a letter
I reacon some Body Must
of Broken it open I
want You to plant all
The Irish Potatoes You can

and Mother I want You
to plant the largest onion
Patch You ever did so when
I come Homes You will
have a plenty I havent
anny thing new to write
at this time I dont think
I will get to come home
this spring unless they Keep
on giveing as manny
furloughs as they are now
untill the 1st May
I must Bring my letter
to a close By saying I
