Camp Near Orange Court House Va
April 3rd 1864
Dear Father and Mother Brothers & sisters
I take my pen in hand
to inform You that I am well
and hope when these few lines
comes to hand may find You
enjoying the same Blessing I
received a letter from You
30th of March and was glad to
hear from You and to hear that
You was a geting a long so well
with Your work Samuel Harding
Started home Yesterday on a furlough
and mother I sent You the ballance
of them pins by samuel and I
sent You some Good coffee by
him and I sent You a paper of
needles in a letter I want You
to write to me whether You get
the needles or not in Your next

letter and I wish You would
send me a little Butter and
some cakes by sam when he comes
back if he will Bring it I
just thought you could make a
Little snack and bake me some
cakes and send me some butter
and it wouldant be much
Trouble to him and would
help me a sight but if
You cant It dont make
anny difference Father as soon
as we draw our money and I
can get the chance I am
a gowing to get You some
powder and send to You
I havent got the money to
spar or relts I would of sent [1]

Reacon I will get to come
home this spring I know I
wont if I get my detail as
Quarter Master clerk for

Then I wont get my furlough
from the company but I
dont much care I wouldnt
give my detail for 3 furloughs
Govenor Vance spoke to us
Yesterday and I tell You
he did make a good speech
he told us the only way to
get peace was to fight for it
as we have here to fore and
then he told us all a bout
desertion and what he told us
was so I think Govenor Vance
is the man and I want every man
to go for him for he has dun
more for the solderes than anny
body elts would or at last I
think so I Must Bring my
letter to a close by saying I

death write soon and often
