Biography: 

John B. Gruber (1821-1887) and his family took in and cared for John Wesley Williams from September 25 until his death on October 20, 1862. He can be found on the 1860 West Virginia, Compiled Census Index at Middleway, Jefferson County, West Virginia but is more often found Clarke County, Virginia. He was a prominent Freemason in the area and a wealthy farmer. John B. Gruber assured John Wesley Williams' mother that her son was buried in the prominent Middleway Masonic Cemetery, which he himself was later buried in when he died in 1887.
