Nicholas Brinkle and Moses Eller were natives of Rowan County and served as privates in Co. D, 23rd NC Inf. Brinkle’s age is listed as 34 in the 1860 Census and his occupation as “day laborer.” Brickle enlisted as a substitute on September 6, 1862 and was discharged on June 30, 1864. Moses Eller died of “abscessus” at Mount Jackson, Virginia on December 22, 1862.
