Biography: 

McCoy Johnson (b. ca. 1826) was a resident of Johnston County and enlisted as a private in Co. C, 53rd NC Inf. on March 5, 1862. He was discharged on May 1, 1862 for being overage. He later served as a private in Co. H, 65th NC (6th NC Cav.) At the time of the 1860 Census he and his wife, Sarah, were living on their small farm with their five children.
