To the gov of NC Feb 18th 1863
Dear Sir I take my pen to rite you
a few lines concerning my son that is
In the armey he had bin in servis
ever sence last march he is in the
47 regment in Capt W C lankfords
Company and my husband is in the
same company and I am left a lone
with fore girl children and no
person to help me and as my son
is a harness maker I was advised
by my friends to rite to you if
you pleas to hav him taken out
of the armey to work for the
government two or three harness
makers has rote for him but he
Could not git of from lankford
and I thaught I wood try

Them that had the power to
have him detald and let him
go in government worke and then
he wood helpe me serport my
family I am told you are a kind
man and if you plese atend to
this matter soon I am not able to
pay you for your trouble but I
trust the lord will reward
you for your kindness his name
is isaiah D Alley and he has bin
Aflicted with a brest complant
ever sence he was ten years of age
and his father give him his time
before he was free because his
helth was so bad and he went
in a harness Shop and learnt
that traid he was not able to
worke in the farm

I am verry bad helth my
Self and if my Son isaiah could
worke at raleigh he wood help
me verry much he can give you a
good reckermendation if it is nesary
he has worked with mr harp som
and learnt his traid with mr
Self you havit in your power to take
him from lankford and I trust
you will soon nothing more at
presant but I hope you will
grattefy a distresed friend
