Dalton Whitfield County Georgia the 26th
Deer Sister i seat my Self this morning to
write you a few lines to let you know how i am
gitting along i am Just only tolerable well
at this time i am Slowly on the mend i have
been Sick for a month i taken Sick at knoxvi
lle Tennessee and went to chattanooga and lay
there 16 days so week that i could not git up
and down i staid there until the 21st and i was
Sent here i had the pnewmonie and i have
had the diarah since i came here i like this
place very well i git plenty to eat and
go where i want to the ladys in this place
is very kind to the sick they have a Society to
cook for all the Sickest ones i git my ration
from them as i cant eat the bread and beef
they have i git good bread and coffee and soop
evry thing sells high here pork is 25 cts per
pound Salt is $40 a bushel potatoes is two
dollars i can git milk at 15 cts a quart with
what little nowresshments i can buy and
what i draw i can live here finely i am
going to stay here as long as i can
git to for i can not stand so much hard
marching i dont no any thing about the
Regment the last time i heard from it it was
at Talahoma i tried to git a furlough but faild

i rote a letter to father on the 20th at Chattanoga
but i think you will get this as soon as he
gits his the weather is very cold here and cloudy
i have not drawed my money yet but
i will draw some to day or to morow they
are paying off the sick here well i am about
out of some thing to write i want you to write
to me as soon as you git this for it has been along

you to hear from there the worst sort
tell father to write and all the connection
i cant write to them all paper is so high
and hard to git i would like to come home
and see you all if i could but i cant i would
like to be at home now to eat fresh meat and
turnips and all such things i often think
of the time that i uest to have when i thou
ght it hard time but i never new what
hard times was i would rather live at home
and work for my victuels and clothes as to be
in the army and git 25$ a month i will
