Federicks Burg , December , the , 19 , 1862
Dear father i am happy to inform you that
i am that Still among the liv ing yet , and ar
Well i hav Bin through another Big battle
at fredericks burg last Saturday it Was a hard
one We gave the yankees the Worst Whiping that
they got since the War commenced Curshaws [1]
Bregaid and cobs fought three divisions We [2]
Drove them Back five times cobs bregaid Was in
frunt the battle lasted all day We kild
more yankees tha i ever Saw on one battle
field the hole field Was covered With dead yan
kees and they lying all over the town We cap
tured agreat meney prisoners our loss is
on our side is about 1800 hundred kild
and Wounded the yankees loss is about
teenty thousand We gaind the great
est vicktory since War has commenced
We lost five kild and fifty six Wounded
in our regment , A Watts was Wounded
in our compney i will give their names
A Watts G W Johnson, A M Showmaker
B F Hutchason Was the wounded
Jeneral cob was kild and Jenerl gregg
was kild, their was nine yankees
Jenerals kild , We hav took a larg amount
of Small armes and amunition and Blan
kets and overcoats canteens and Bacon
the yankees hav all rasst Back over
the river, the town of fredericks Burg
ar Badly Riddled With canon balls

down it is the worst distruction i ever
Saw, i Wold hav rote to you before now
but we have bin in line of battle for seven
days and i had no chance to rite to you
i received your letter and Was glad to hear
from home i received one from James alewine
the Same day i Was glad to hear that he is
Well but i was sory to hear that oald
man crowther was ded i Want you to
rite to me and let me know how you ar
geting along and Wheather they hav got you
[out in?] the army or not and if andrew is at
home or not and if J T Boyd hav got
home or not and if you hav herd from him
Since you rote before i Wold like to get hom
to see you all if cold but the chance bad
their is So much fighting going on that
their Wont be eney chance this Winter
i Want to no if you hav got the
Watch that I Sent to you By James
carlile or not if you hav not got it
i Want you to get it and i Want you to
Send them things By James alewine
But tell him not to be in ahury about
coming Back for the Weather is very coald
rite soon and give me all the news
i Wil half to close for the Want of somthing
rite give my respects to all my friends
and tell them to rite to me
