Camp near Fredericksburg
Dear father i take this oppertunity of riting
you a few lines to let you know how i am i am
Well at this time and hope When thes few
line coms to hand they may find you Well
i received your letter that Was dated [??]30
and i Was glad to hear from home and that you
Was all Well and all my friends i Was sorry
that Robertson mccadams Was dead and that
they hav so much sickness in their camp
the health of our regment is tolerable good
at this time their has bin a great deal of
sickness in our regment and a great meney
deaths We hav lost five men out of our
company since the fight at sharpsBurg
their is a great meney coming in every day
from that has bin home on furlow they all
look Well and harty, their is a grat talk
us geting furlows now their too to go from
on company at a time they hav sent out
their furlows to get the General to sine
them i do not Wheather they Wil get them
or not wil not get to go the first time but i
am a going try to get of the next time
if eney body gets to go they get 27 days
A S Barnes and J B Alen is ons that gets
to go first out of our coompany i Want
to go first but i had to giv Way for them
to go first as they hav don mor duty than
eney of the rest i think my time comes

Well you wanted to no how i com out
the Battle at fredericks Burg i come through
safe i Was struck twist With Spent Bales
but they did not hurt me our company did
not sufer much, We had three men Wounded
A Watts, g.W.Johson. A. M. Shoemaker Was
ons that Was Wounded Watts Was wounded
in the leg I heard from him the other day he
is suffering very much from his Wound
he Wil not be able to go home under a month
We had five Kild and fifty six Wonded
in our regment. We Was exsposed very to
the fire of the enemy but We pored in such a hevy
fire to them they cold not Stand it We kild
more of them than eney fight that We hav ever
bin in yet, the enemy is Still on the opisite
side of the river to us yet We picket in cite
of each other they ar one side of the river and
We on the other their is talk of us going to nor
th carolina but i do not no it to be so
you wanted to no if i got them things that
you sent me i got all of them but the bottle
of brandy the gard took it h[??] on the cars i g[??]
the one that was in the cloths, i like my shoos
verry well the coat is most too small but i
can War it. it Wil be large enough in summer
time. i receiveed aletter from Thomas afbout
the last december he Was Well at that time
he had got back to camp. write to me as often
as you can and giv me all the news in Jeneral
