Dear father I hav the pleasure
to drop you afew lines to let
you know that I am stil on the
land of living and ar geting a
long prety Well I was Wound
ded at the battle of Gettys Burg
Pensylvania on the second of July
I Was Wounded in the right thigh
near my knee With a buck Shot
I cold not Walk eny for a Weak
I Was left to the mercy of the ene
my I Was taken prisoner I Staid
their until the eighteenth and then
i Was sent to Baltimor We Stopt
ther one day and knight and
then We Was sent to new york
I Was put on Davids Island a
Bout 30 miles from new york
and their We Was kept until
the 24 of August I was Peroled

and sent to Peters Burg va I am
in the South carolina hospital at
peters Burg my Wound is do
ing tolerable Well it S[t]ill run
ning yet it Wil Bee som time
Before it Wil be Well it is
Wors than it Was three Weaks
ago the yankees treated us
very kind Was at the Best hos
pital in the united Stats their
Was 26 hundred of us their I
met up With som of my auld
friends their thomas hampton
and John Mccury and J M
hill is all their they hav all
lost a leg hampton is nearly
Well Mccury Was very
sick I dont think he ever
Will get Well his leg has not
heald eney yet hill Was nearly
Well But he fell down and hurt
it But i think he Wil soon get Well

Ward third I cant go to the
regment til i am exchanged this
