Camp near Gordonvill Va
April 22nd 1864
Dear father I seat my self to write
to you I have not recd eny letter as yet
from you or Brother Daniel in some time
I hope to get one soon news is scarce
my health is very good we have got back to
the Army of the Potomac we landed at Scharlots
on the 19th we have moov near Gordonville we
will Proble Stay hear a week or mor as We
are cleaning up camp that is if Genl Grant dose
not rowse us up we had a heave Snow storm
on the 16th and 17th that was while we was near
Bristol Tenn but ther is a grate Change in
the weather Since we came hear it is lik Spring
but two or three Hundreds miles make a difer
ence it Seems as Corps is known far and
wide when we Came to Scharlotsvile we wer met
by the ladys of the town to Cheer us and the
yong girls from the Coledgs Come running to
meet us we are ruff weatherbeeten looken
fellowes dirty and raged but the womans
and yong girles Seems to Say Stand of you
Cleen Shirts hospitle [rots?] the town is filld
with such but a few more week will tell
the news whether we shall bee free or fight a
nother year

you I think how loansum you must bea
no one to help you plow or feed the stock
in mornings brother Daniel will healp you
soon but our Cuntry call us for healp and
we have to obey I hope you ma have the
good shower to help make corne which will
doo mor good than me I will look for Dan
to bea comeing back in a nother week
and he will tell me all of the new I
wish it was So that he Could Stay and help
you make a Crop we have got better rastions
Since we have come hear we draw very good
Corne meal Bacon rice Coffee Shuger Beef &c
we can live very well on this if tha continue
to ishue Such rashions I Shall go to See
Some of my old friends if we Stay hear
long enuff in Mcgowens Brig I hear that
they are camp near Orenge C H every thing
is git bacward hear wheet begins to make
a shoe peaple is Comence Planting Corne
