camp near Gordonsville va
April the 28 1864
Dear father I take this opertunity
of riting you of afew lines to let
you no that I hav arrived at the regt safe
on the twenty sixth I found all my mess
Well and doing Well, andrew is Well
and harty he Stands the camp fine and is
very Well Sats fied he looks as Well
or he did When he lef home James alewine
is Well and harty. J C Millford is
Well but he looks rather thin he grievs
about home too much the health of
the men in our regtmen is not as as it
has bin for Som time past. their is
not much news asturing here it is the
opinion of the men that we Wil fight
soon but as for my self I cant tell
it looks very much like we Will
half to do Somthing Soon the yankees
is a bout 20 miles from here. I dont
think that We Wil Sta here long it
is thought that We Will go to richmond
or to fredericks Burg but it is uncirtai
n Wher We Wil be Sent too. We Wil half
to go to Wher the most fighting Wil be don

their is a great many troops coming
her from South carolina an other places
I met up With a great meney of my
auld friends i[n] Collumbia I saw W N
Hall and a good meney others from our
neghborhood I started to rite a letter
When I Was at Collumbia but cass was
about leaving and i did not get
through I Sent them papers too all
four of you I got them for four dollars
a peace I sent the receipts and one
dollar in money in the letter that I
sent you may pay Mr. crowther and
unkle William one dollar apeace I
Wold hav Sent it to you but I did not
hav the chang i did not get my money
at collumbia i Wil draw som in a day
or too the regtment has not ben payd of
yet money is the scarcest that i ever saw
it in camp. but it aint much use here
for there aint eneything to buy We get
plenty to eat We get corn meal bacon
cofee and shugar We Wil liv for a Whil
i got my box through safe me and hoges [1]
come to geather all the Way I Wil send this
With J T campbell as he is going home Well
i believ I hav rite about all that I
can at this time
