September the 21 1864
Dear father I seat my self morning to drop
a few lines to let you no how I am get ing a
long I am tolerable Well at this tim and I
hope When this few lines coms to hand they
find you all and doing wel I received your
letter of the 12 I Was truly glad to hear from
home and that you ar all Well but I Was Sorry
hear of the death of cosin Wiliam and to hear
of little Pressly being Sick but I hope they
Wil or Soonn get Well I no they hav had hard time
year fur they hav had So much sickness in their
famileys: Wel I Wil giv you What little news
I hav We hav not had eney fighting since the
13 the eight Regment had a little fight With
the cavalry the eight Regment Was nearley all
taken prisoner colonel henigan aand one hundred
an four men Was captured we left Winchester on
the 15 we have bin marching ever Since We ar
on our Way to petersburg or to east tennessee i dont
no Wher We Wil go to We hav got a new Brigade
General his name is conor he is a hard custermer
he makes the officers fly round he is the hardes
on us ov eney General that We ever had camp [1]
John nance has bin in command of the
7th Regment for som time our Bregaid is
geting very small We have lost nearley
too regments since we hav bin the valley and
am afraid that We Wil go to wors place be
fore long if We get to petersBurg

making a good run hear Bradly is ahead for

two pares of Socks the first chance you hav
for I am needing them now I recon that We Wil
Draw clothing in a few days their is a great meney
men barfooted and if they keep us marching about

Wil get to a bad place yet Som thinks that
We Wil go to georgia but it is hard to tell wher
