Battry Marshel Sullivans Island Jan 25th 1863
Dear Brother
I Seat my Self this night to respond to
yours of this evening which give me great Satisfaction
to heare from you and to hear that you ware on the
mend This leaves me well and allso Joel Calvin is
complaining with his big toe it is verry bad yet
Dr Salley made him poare hot taller on it and
Scald it So the nail would come off and you
may gess how it hurt him he intends to go
before the board of Docters next tuesday and
try to get a furlaugh to go home John I havent
eneything interresting to write to you from camps
everrything appears verry quite in camps we
have verry tight times down hear we have got T D [A?son?]
Wet Rucken and J Sharp in the guard House
for running the blocaid and over staying leave
of Absance they will be Cort mar shald
And as regard the band I do not think they
are doing mutch practising I havent been up
to old quarters for the last two or three days
So I can not tell you much a bout the band
I havent herd from Mr Hatfield Since you left
I do not think that he is dead or I would have
herd of it Hain Joiner is on the mend but is not
able to go home John I am at lost to know what to
Say to you a bout my dishes and little affairs but
I would rather not Sell them I would rather
you would pack all my things up in Something and
Send them to Feds and as for the Salt you can Sel it or use
it or give it to the old man you can use your pleasure

John you must do as you think best with my
little affairs you know my reasons for not wanting
to Sell my dishes and things I want Something
to remember my Friend that is gone if I Should
Live to get out of the wars I must come to
a Close as my candle is getting verry dim
I hope you will excuse my badly writin Letter
Give my respets to all inquiring friends
and reserve aportion for your Self
