Sullivans Island March 10th 1863
Dear Wife I have Just had the pleasure of
Receiving yours of the 6th inst and am happy
to heare that you are all well and I hope
the blessing of good helth may continue with you
all as for myself I am quite well have bin still
improving Ever sience I left home but cant say
how long this will be the case, Dear Rachel
I have no news of greate importance to right
you at preasant as all things heare still app
=ar perfectly quiet, sience the attacht on fort
McAllister at Savannah the yankeys gun boat
and north boats attacted the fort four difera
time but it appear that their guns had but
little affect on the fort tha give it up as a ba[d?]
Job and put out to see and gon wee no not whear
so it is my opinion if theire gun boats dos so little
with one small fort as McAllister theire is but
little danger of theire undertaking the city
of Charleston wheare tha will have so meney
strong fortifycation that it will be a long time
yet before tha git the city of Charleston
Der Rachel you stated in your letter that you
did not no what I intended to be don with the
five dillers in inclosed to you I intended you
to keep it for your own use as I have riten
to Henry to git me the Whiskey and I would pay
him when he comes down when I draw my
pay again I can pay him and have Enough money
left for my use in camps I want him to git
one gallon send me one half and you keep the
other half for your own use, Der Rachel
I must say to you that all of the Band
have moved Execpt George and Ishim Harley
