My dear wife it is once I im brace
the present opertunity of righting you
A few lines witch leave me tolrible
well and I do truly hope these few
Lines may come dew to hand and find
you all well I arivd hear tuesday safe and
Sound I had to pay one dollar for halling
my box from the charleston depot to the
bote landen I am mest with edward dill
Jef Bruce Davis crain thay ar all well Jef
lister is a bout but he likes a heap of be
ing well he looks the werst I ever
Saw him Joel farmer was over and
Stade all nite with us last nite he is
well I can step out a one hundred yards
on a sand bank and se the yankey vesels
plain thay ar a meney a one tha ar mak
eing grate fortifications on moris iland our
men keeps fiering from the forts on the

I am not Satisfide hear at all it makes my

I am hear nothing fit to eat nor cant get
a drank of water fit to drank I hav wanted
water ever sencs I left greenville and can
get none to quinch my therst it seemes
to me like I cold live beter at home on
pure water than I can hear apon what we
drow to eat and the water we haf to drink
I hav bin triing to get to come home but it is
a bad chance you must do the best you can
I can do nothing but comet you in to the of
him hoo feeds the yong ravens when
thay cry I want you to rite as soon as you get
this for I am very anceous to hear from you
all and how your foot is and if De[n?]y dill
comes to thes redgment I want you to send
me some bone set and get me some red
peper and send it direct your leters to ch
