April 14 1862 To mot ley So Ca [1]
Dear sister I take my pen in
hand to drop you A fiew lines
that will in form you that I
am well at present and hope
this will finde you all in the
same goods blessing thir is some
measles in camp and mumps
I have bin fishing to day and
caught one fine mud fish there is
some fine fish down here we have
not drawn our money yet nor
nothing else nor I dont know when
we will I think that we will move
from here in A fiew days but I
cant tell whether we will or not
I dont think there will bee any
fiting down heare soon and
maby not at all

tell Pa to write and tell me
how much corn he has planted
and how much cotton he is going to
plant the yankees have taken fort

maby I will get to come her
A whil but I dont know
I want you to write once A
week any how I think that I
will write to grandpa to day
Mel got A letter from him las wek
and he told him to tell me to writ
to him Mell got A letter from uncle
Jim last wek he was well at that time
we are not drilling hard at all we did
four times A day I heard that
there was A draft but I did
not heare who was drafted

to day but I have nothing
to write if you want any stamps
I will send you some if you will
write to me whether you want any
or not we had A very good rain
yesterday it is not very pleasant
when it raining I wrote to Mattie
and Mag Rowland Sunday I was sent
sent my old shoes by Joe Mcatur
all the trunks [was?] full and I
cold not send them but if I have
any chance I will send them hom
I must close as I hav nothing more
to write give my love to all in
qireing frienends and except the same
