Dear cousin Will I take
the opportunity of writing you a few
lines this evning to remember you
of your old friends once more
my health is not very good
now nor has not been for the
last year or two I heard you was at
charleston in camps and as I love
to get letters from my friends
I have concluded to write you a
short letter though I write and
spell bad if you cant read it
you must guess at it. Will [2]
you dont know how lonley the
people are at home since the
volunteers are gone the girls
have all most give up poor
things I am truley sorry for
them but cannot help it they
have to go to church by them selfes
and to the field and plough and
hoe corn to keep the boys from
suffering for bread while they
kill yankes I hope you will
soon get through and come
to north Carolina and stay with
us a week or to I think we
will have a fat pig to kill
when you come and some
Shanghis to make a pie and
there is no danger of the girls

getting married till the war
is over it is thought all the men
ove 18 and under thirty five
will soon have to leave if
some women and children
will suffer for some thing to
eat Fielder is not done planting
corn yet nor I cant tell when
he will it rains about five
days out of Seven so th[e] ground
is to wet I am looking for
Unke[l] Bery and aunt Frankey
up the 10 .. 11 of this month to
a big meeting well cousin
my pin is so bad I will
have to quit I want you
to write to me if you can read
this and if you cant read it write
write any how direct your letters
to Forks of Pigeon yours truly
