Pigeon River Haywood County N.C.
October 16th 1862
Cousin William I have concluded to drop you
a few lines to let you know how we are I have
nothing to write of interest. Nannie and Sallie are boath sick
or they would write to you but I expect they will write when
they get well again the rest of the family are all well and
I hope this short note will find you in the best of health
I read a letter from you at uncle D. B. Halls in wich you
wrote to I and my sisters I was indeed glad to hear from you
and would have wrote to you before if I had not been waiting
for Nannie and Sallie to write we have no news in old
Haywood except war news and we dont care much for that
unless it was better but we still hope the South will come out
Victorious and peace will be made some day if it ever is
All the boys are gone our of Haywood except five or six
and I expect to have one of them if I can get one and
if I cant I can do very well without them my lover is gone
and I want to see him comeing home sure but I know your
patiences will ger wourn out reading this uninteresting note so I would
just say I would love to see you and you must come and see us
when you leave the war the girls send there love to you your cousin Hattie
