Dear cosin it is withe pleasure that I a vail
my self ove the present oppertunity ove droping
you a fue lines to inform you that I am well
& truley hoping this willcome safe to hand & find
you injoying the same blesing will I Received
a fue lines from you a fue days a goe & was truley
glad to heare from you & to find that you was at
home injoying the sweat comforts life withe your
frends & Relation I was truley glad to find that you
had found some girles that wished to marey will
we have had a hard time for the las 8 days we have
bin skedadling for 8 days we have fell back
125 miles we are in one hundred miles ove Richmond
the Briggaid has bin a skirmish Every day for 5 days
we have lost narey man out ove our Ridgment
yet ther was one wounded in west fields companey
I understod last night that ther was 36 kild out
ove the Briggaid I havent bin withe the Ridgment
for 5 days my mare has a sore back soe I caint
Rid her the Ridgment is 20 miles be hind the wag
geons we are looking for a big fight in a fue days
Pope is in 10 miles ove urs with 50 thousan men I sopose
we give some ove his partey a floging on munday
last & tha have fell back 9 miles on teusday last
longstreat whip them neare culpeper court house
we are on our way back to old South Careolina
tha say but I caint for certain we are going
some wher & tha say that we are going to the
South we will goe ther or to Missipia one I had
Rather goe to the co[a]st than to goe to Missipia

Say to you that B. C. Dill & John Grosse wass
taken prisners on Sunday the 2nd ove this ins [2]
Dill had Just got to camps on fridey night
he had bin off Sick 2 monthes to a day when he
come to camp & Sundey he went out on picket
& was taken a prisner that night tha got his horse
bridle & Sadle & awll B C Dill was well &
looked the best I Ever saw him we have a good
deal ove Sicknes in camps at thes time we have
onley one officer in our companey at this time &
he is not well G. W. Nix is sick & has bin for a
weeak or soe it is cold I think that ailds him
will we have plenty ove frut heare it is
worth 5 dollars a bushiel buter 50 cts per
&c I waunt you to Rite to me soone as this
comes to hand & let me heare the neus
