Nov the 10 [1861]
Dear Father I seat my self this morning to
drop you A few lines I am well this
morning I have som mor nuse to write you
they had A nother batle yesterday or
I onley heard the firing of guns whitch
was supos to be A batle that is all I can
tell you A bout it I wish I node how
they com out so I could write to you
I have received mor nuse of the fight of that
we had one hundred kill & wonded & mising
we bernt one of their vesels sunk two tore up
A nother one I heard last knight that general
Lee had taken one of our baterys back &
was in good way for the other one the generall
said that he would have it last knight I have
told you all I now About the fight
Father you wrote somthing A bout sending
me some provissons I would be glad you wood
if you will I will pay you for it send one box
that will hole A bout five bushels in it
send me some potatoes some cabage & some ternops
if you can send me A bout ten pouns of buter
if you wil send me such A box ill give you
ten Dollars for it send me A pone of loaf
coarn bread & one of wheat bread ill tell you
I am geting the tirdes of beef & wheat bread
you ever saw we have A coock that does tolible
good cocking we have had him two Months
we hired at Charleston we have had him ever

since we have ben hear Father their the most
sickness hear I ever saw of the Measles and
momps they is five has to go out of our copany
to the hospital this mournig all with the
Measles they is Mor or less goes every day
they is two hundred in the hospital with the
Measles exceping the Mumps whitch is A bout
the same amount of the Measles
Father we have four mor new copanes in our regt
I wil Name the captains Capt Thomsan from
Abevile Capt Jinkins from fairfeel Capt
Moors compana from Anderson Capt Boys from
Pickens & I hear their is four mor A coming
all to join our regt Father I wish i could
be with you to day I could talk A week
with you A bout what I have sean whitch
would be interresting to you or at least I think
it would but we are two far A part to be to
gether to Day & I dont no whether I ever will
get to see you Again in this world or not
but I want us to meet in the other world
if it should hapen that I should not live to go
home Again; tell litle John that I will send
him som sea shels if I get the chance. & tell
the litle girls that I hant got any room in
this leter to write to them this time but I will
write to them next time
I Must close excuse my bad writen & compose
leter give my love & respect to all inquiring
frines & tak the grates portion of it to your
self Father I want you to take care of every
leter that you get from me this is the 8 one
