Dear Father
I once More imbrace the opportunity to
drope you A Lines to Let you No how
I am geting A Long I am not well to
Day I have taken A very bad Cole
I Reported Sick this Morning for
the first time in four Months
and I am the only one but what has
bin Sick for the Last four Mounth
I Dont no as I have any news of
importance to write I will Say to you
that I Received your kind Leter by
James Berns whitch I was glad to hear
from you Father I will Say to you that I
have Sent you A half Sack of Salt
My Self & W. T. Maldin Sent A Sack
betwen us one half of it be Longs
to you & the other half be Longs
to Mr.. Maldin the half Sack I Sent
you is worth ten Dollars Salt is Sell[?]
in the city at twen five Dollars A Sack
the Salt I Sent you I did not pay any
thing for it Colonel Marshal Gav it
to Me the way he gave it to Me was
they was A vesel Run the blockade & the
yanks was A bout to get it

and the vesel Run A Shore on Long
Island A bout eight Miles from hear
& Colonel Marshal detail one hundred
& twenty five Men to go after the Salt
and every Man that went he gave A
half Sack of Salt A pice So we went
one day and knight & Never got
to Sleep any So thats how I Come
by thet Salt the time we work for the
Salt was Last Saterday knight was
A week Ago & Last Saterday knight
I was in jest Such Another Scrape
they was Another vesel Run the blockade
& beached on Long Island A bout four
Milles from hear {Aprial the 15..}
Father I will Say to you that we have
Lost Another one of our best Souldiers
J. R. Balinger A Member of our
Company Mr.. Balinger Died with
the Typhoild fever Last knight the 14
of Aprial the year 1862
