Virginia Camp Starvation Hanover
County July the 10th 1862
Dear friend I Seat myself on the
ground this mornng to drop you a
few lines to let you now that I am
Well and I hope that these few lines
may find you all en Joying the
Aame blessing Mr Wright I have
So much to do and it is such Squaley
times that I cant write half as much
I want to write at this time
We came to the battle field
on Saturday after the big battle was
fought on friday and we have bin
There ever since among the dead men
horses it is the worst times I ever
seen in my life it has becom
natural to me to see dead men
lying on the ground I have seen
many one lying on the Ground a week

after the battle before they
was barried our Capt has to Guard
one horspittle there is about a hundred
wonded yankees there and the live
live things are workin in the wounds
for the want of attnetion I
have seen the new york Zuaves at last
our boyes killed all of them but
twelve there was thousand killed
wounded and taken prisners and the
property that we taken from them
is innumerable I have seen thousands
of dollars worth of good close laying
on the field to be distroyed they killed
wonded a[????] of our men to Riley mc and
Rufers Carter got killed that I know of
they want but three of [?mans] C[??]
that went in the battle [???]

escapt being killed or wonded
I dont See why all of them dident get
killed whan they charged rite
down through an old field on the yankees
and they ware behind there
brestworks some of our boys says
that they wish all the yankees ware
in hell but I dont for if they
ware to go there Old Jackson
would follow them there to
I have seen John Plunkett [???]
[????] & [???] Payne [????]
They want in the battle they [1]
Have bin sick [???] Cooper very
bad yet [??????] will has got
[measles?] well again T G Payne

Mr Wright I could write a
heap more but it is now
drill time and I must close
for see very hard times hear now for
we hav to drill [ten?] hours a day
when haint a guardin prisners we have
about twenty sick men in our company
Mat has got mesuls Dan noles has nemmonia
we havent got anny tents nor [close?]
onley what we have on they ware all
left in Richmond when we left there
Give my love and best respects
to every body around [??] and kiss
all the Girles for me and you [???]
and to direct your letter to Richmond in care of Cap Bulger 47 Regt Ala vol
That always [Fight?] and [tears?] that never weep
And ever fall, but not in [????] sight
