Dear father
I take my pen this mor
ning to drop you a few lines to let
you know that myself and Clinton are
well at this time I have nothing of
much importance to write you this
morning but as I have nothing to at
I thought I would amuse myself
by writing something anyhow the weather
here is cold that is it is cold to Alabamians
but to the Virginians it is pleasant so
they say there is snow on the ground
about half the time and the ballance
of the time the ground is frozen or mudy
one or the other but the cold here does
not affect a man like it does in Alabama
because it is a regular thing here there is
no suden change here like ther is in
Alabama M C. Hein[????] and Henry Oldham [1]
are both well so far as I know Wat
tels me that George [??] as volenteered
in a Cavelry Co[mpa?]ny under John
West As Captain in [???] that than to

March 5th late in the evening
still will and hearty Clinton has
had the mumps but he is well of
them now we have drawed some money
since I come back 22 dollars apiece to the
privetes that is 2 months pay and
there is 2 months more due in the
first of this month I drawed 34 dollars
myself and paid all that I owed and
sold 2 pr pants 1 pr of shoes 1 hat and
1 bowie knife and have 30 dollars left
to go on I have nothing more to say
at present as it is getting late
write soon. for I have not received
any letters since I returned
your son until death
