Charles Wesley Foust
Charles Wesley Foust (ca. 1836-1864) was a blacksmith from Jefferson County, Alabama. He married Melissa D. Wear on July 13, 1856. At the time of the 1860 Census, Foust and his wife, Melissa (b. ca. 1839) had two small children. Foust’s father, David Foust (b. TN 1804-1888) was a farmer in neighboring Shelby County. He and his brother, David Clinton Foust (ca. 1843-1912) enlisted in Co. B, 10th Alabama Infantry in June of 1861. Another brother, James Asbury Foust (ca. 1838-1863) appears to have served in the Confederacy and died on February 22, 1863. Although David survived the war, Charles died in the Civil War on May 6, 1864.
