Dear Linda & Children
it is with pleasure I
answer yours of the 2nd I am sorry that
you have been sick but glad you are
up again God Grant you and our little children
May keep in good health I am well and in
as good health as I could ask and have [????]
Ever Since I have been in the cervice
and get plenty to eat of what I have wrote
to you Before I have not tasted milk and buter
Since I left home I recived the tobacco that
you sent me We are camped at a beautiful
place and have as good water as I Ever [???]
and plenty of it we had nothing to do of
Count a [had?] a few [??] of w[??] we have praye
meeting every night preaching of Sundays I have
been to meeting to day the meeting is held in
the encampment prayer meeting this Evening
You Wish for me to come home you cant want
me home Eny wors than I want to come ef I
was alloud my [??] you know I would come
as soon as the [????] wood Bring me and [???]

we are looking for them this evening if my captain
was here I Would try an get off with Capt Smith
But he is not here and I cannot get off
Linda I had as soon Stay hom as Eny where away
person here But I shall not ever be content
from home but we must try and make the Best
of it we can and trust to God for the help we need
Write to me how much mony White gave you
and how much you got for the Ballance of Salt
and all and what you think of and how you like
my Daguerotipe I also sent you a pint of whiskey
write me about all these things and if you
have got Eny Body to Stay with you yet and if
not hire you a negro if you Can get one on
good terms Write how you are geting along
with all our folks I Do hope you may get along
well Send me a pound or two of Butter if you can
get a Large mouthed Bottle send me Some Dried
Sage and peper and a smal vial of linament
tell all to write to me and you write one Letter
once a week take your time Dont try to write
