Camp near Pollard, Oct 27/ 63
To Mrs Averett
Dear Madam,
Feeling it to be the
duty of some one to let you know
the condition of you husband,
I take that responsibility upon
myself. He was attacked on last
Friday with a severe chill, which
proved to be an attack of plura-pnu
monia. Since that time it has been
[run]ning its course unabated; so that
now, I consider his case a critical
one. Should you wish to come and
see him, you may probably get here
before he dies, should that be the
result. It is impossible to say now
how the case will terminate.
It may be, that you will find him
recovering, or very near his last.
With due respect I am
Yours P. Zimmerman
