Dear Sister
As Mr Findley
is going to start to old Dekalb
in the morning I preceed to
write you a few lines as
I did not have an opprtu
nity of writing by Lieut
Thomason I was then exspect
ing a furlough myself but
I have no hopes of one
now as my application has
ben sent up some ten days
ago

I may try them a gane in
A feu weaks it is a very
hard matter to get off from
here but you neede not look
for me as it is as unsertan
as the wind a blowing thes
d-d Generals do not cear a
d-m for a common man
what becomes of him
but I hope the day is not
far distent when we will all
be permited to return to our
homes and live in peas and
harmoney as we once did

They is a good Deal of excit-
ment a mong the men a
bout furloughs but my
oppinion is that they will bee
but verey few granted from
this part of the Army as our
Generals is verey strict in
matters I think they are doing
me verey sorry as I havent
never ben home nor away
from the Regiment since in
the servis I have ben I
have ben in all fights but
one that was seven Pines

I Recived yours and Jacobs
letters you sent by our old
friends I was exceedingly
glad to hear from you all
once more allso verey glad
to Recived the Clothing you
sent and it come in a verey
good time all tho my boots
was too small but ever
thing elce fits verey well
I sent Jacob one hundred
Dollars by Lieut Thomason
and if you need any of
it Just take it and use it
as you wish John Rogers

We are in tollarbolly good
quarters now but havent been
so long the health of camps
is verey good now with the
exseptions of some few cases
of small pocks but non
dying with it non of my
Company has caught it yet
we have all ben
vacinated and no danger
now Syrenia I have no
more news to write to you
this time as you have herd
as much a bout the fight at
murffersborough Tenn

Elisha Moore they was sum

and the others are in the
guard hous yet

Jacob are having some verey
amusing times I would
like to of ben there at some
of your shin digs surtain
as it has ben some time sen
ce I had any amusement
in that way I have ben
taking my balls with the
yankee for some time thoo
unhealthey Balls Just in

worst kind to take
surtain but Jacob can tell you
how they serve men

and plenty of whiskey to
drink at twenty dollars per
Canteen full, Jinjir caks
only cost fifty cents a peace

milk fifty cetns per quarts
Butter two dollar per lbs
Eggs two dollars per dozon
ever thing elce in proportion
so I must come to a close hope
