Joseph James Fondren (1822-1864) was a resident of Fayette County, Alabama. He was married to Elizabeth M. Madison (1823-1904), and they had at least three children. He served as a first sergeant in the 9th Alabama Cavalry and was killed on duty in 1864. His wife never remarried.
