My Dere wife i wonse more tak
My pen in hand to in form you that i am still in
the land of the living but note well for I gote
hurt a bout ten dayes a goe and i hav ben in the
hosspitel ever sence and i hav note ben ab[l]e to right
til now but i am agitting better and i hop that
i shal be able to go to dutey in a few dayes and i hop
these lines will find you in goying good helth
i want you to bee carful of youer selfe and note
exspose youer self i hav had a letter from sidney
and he is well i am afraid that i cante git home
in march for the yankes is preparing to mak
a nother atack on savanna thar is a grat fleate in
for these menney dayes and the genrel wont giv
afurlow to enney boddey till after the battle and
and then if we whip the yankes he will giv us furlowes
