Mobile Ala feb. 26th 1862

Dear father and mother I am at liberty and dont no anay beterway of imploy my
time than riting to you to in form you that I am well at presant hoping these few
lines will find you all in Joy the same blessing I will tell you a bout the sad
surcomstance that has happon to us this morning about day brake this morning tha
was a very heave storm where blew down all the houses and tents that was in
camps and raind very heavey every thing got weat we was in fraimed houses and
tha all blew down and althousewonders that that tha we all had of bin cilled
but no body was hurt wone man cill at the horse pittle and or two more wonded in
other ridgements we all run out in the street as quick as we cood the hole face of
the earth was covrd in water Mr Yarbro was in his house I thought of him and ran
assoon as I cood seea to seea what had becom of him I got thaire and cod not
find him I was revieved he cleard the house as hit fel over we set to weark this
morning about wone oclock we got ordors to leave this place to some point onthe
mascippia rivear about wone hundred and fifty or two hundred miles from where
this morning I was detailed to stand gard tha was nearlia five hundred men de-
tailed fur gard duty this morning I want you to send those things that I sent fur
and send mea a little lard if you Can fur if I get any I haft to pay fur hit you
may think that I may be to you but if I everget back I will sea all strate again
I hope that we all will get back some timeorother our boys is in afine spiret
concidrin the starm if I esscape the yankes as well as I escape the stam I will
be thankful though I was thankful fur esscapting the stam I must come to aclose fur
I haft to prepaire fur moving you ned not to rite to mea as soon as I get
station I will rite again I give you all my best respects and remain your
affectionate sun,
