childrean Dear and ever loving wife I again
Seat my self this Sabbath morning to Rite
you a few lines in answer to your kind letter
which come to hand this morning I can say
to you it found me well and Ihope this may
find you and the Dear little childrean all in
good health and doing as well as could Be expected
for you to do Dear Catharine I had bin loocking for a letter
from you for the last weak But never come tell this
morning it was lyen own the Road some wheir
the one before this was Dated the 8th and this one was
Dated the 16th and it did not Reach me tell 30th
which is to Day their you can see how the letter
come and it may be the Same way with the ones that
I send to you but I hope it is not Dear wife
I have nothing new to Rite that will give you mutch
sattesfaction a bout the war every thing is
Discuringly to us hear of late it seams that
there is now other chance But that the yankes
will finaly over Run us after all the hard chips
that we have under gown But Sow it is If our cause
is a just one I Still hope the Lord will have murcey
upon us and give us a honerable peace when ever he
Seas that we disserve it But Should our head
men have taken up a Rong Cause wheir can
they have enny hopes of prosperen In this Bluddy
war which they have Broot up against their
fellow man Dear wife we air loocken to hear
every Day for the fall of Charleston as Sumter
is almost beat to the water edg Should the yankes
get Charleston yet I think our chance is a bad one
but sow it is we will have to wait and hope for
the Better In the end If the Lord is for us who can
be againsten to us I think If the men that is at home
would turn their attention to prayer and pray earnestly
to the lord to have murcey upon us and give us a
speady peace it would do our country more good
then for them to be a Racen and Scrapen to make a
fortion at such a time as this I dont throw this
at enny of our Neighbors But I will now it is two
much the case over the Southren confederacy in such
a time as this is not the time for people to

us what good will all their money and property
do them I will close own this Subjection for the present
Dear wife I must tell you what taken place Since
our men Runaway our Capt. and our Agitent foloward
them the next Day with 18 men beside them selves
to take thease Disserters they did not come a craws our
men but met up with some 12 or 15 others and our
agitent orderd them to Surrender and the
men Refused dowing Sow and at that they booth
commensed fireing own booth Sides the diserters
kiled the agitent or wounded him Sow he dide Shortly
afterwordes their was one of the Diserters kiled
own the grownd and a notherone wounded that he died
Shortley after wards the Balance of the Diserters
was all taken prisoners But one they are now all
confind In Richmond it is thout they will
all be hung or Shot But I cant tell for Serten
I will close own this, Dear wife I will now Rite
something a bout our home affairs fodder maken
time is close awn hand and If it is weather that
you can have it maid I want you to try and
get hands to help you make it for you will nead
all you can get as you will have now hay for the
horses and me and Henry Dagerhardt has bin
talken a bout some sheap provided you want
them and provided his wife will spair them I told
him I wanted 2or3or4 jus what ever his wife would
spair he promes me young youse [1] that will have
lambs in the Spring and a last Springs lamb or
two he said he wanted sead wheat for them and
I told him I would lette him have the wheat at the
old price and he said he would lette me have the
sheap the Same way you and him can do your
own traden If it will Suit you booth you can
gow and loock at the Sheep and she can
come and loock at the wheat we was also atalken
a bout chaingen some wheat fer some good
Dried fruit provided you wanted enney which
I now you do If you have not Bout non get Several
Bushels If you can that is to be jus as the other
traid Booth at the old prices you can Bee
your own judge a bout this I think you woud
have a good place for Sheep in the fields this
winter I will have to close own a nother sheat
