Biography: 

James W. Gibson was a resident of Catawba County, North Carolina. He enlisted as a private in Co. F of the 23rd North Carolina Infantry (formerly the 13th North Carolina Volunteers) on June 6, 1861. He was captured at the Battle of South Mountain on September 14, 1862, exchanged, captured again on April 4, 1865, and released on June 27.
