Camp mangum
near Raligh 35 Regiment of
N.C. volenteers
Dear cozen I Seat myself
this night by candle light
to let you no that I am
well and hope that those few
lines will find you in the
Same State if health Dear
cozen I have no news to write
to at this time we have not
got in to no battle yet But
I do not no how soon we may
the news came her that we had
to go to manasses as for my
part I do not care how soon
Dear cozin I would be glad to
see you I thout that I would
get to come home at christmas
but I am a fraid that I wont

get to come But I hope that
the time may swiftly role
a round that we may all return
to the pretty girls that we
left in old catawba Dear cozen
I will tell you the diferent
kind of religion that is in our
regiment there is some a cursen
and swering some playing cards
Some dansing and all kind of
foolishnes I was at preaching
last Sunday and heard a good
Sermon preached Dear cozen I
have give you all the news
I must close give the whole
family my love and best
respect and tell cozin cate and
pink rocket [1] that I will rite to
them befor long and tell them
to rite to me Sonomore only
rite soon I remain your
