Eliza Whitner Papers
The Whitners (the name is also spelled Whitener) were a farm family who lived in the Jacob’s Fork section of Catawba County, North Carolina. The letters in the collection were written to Eliza Whitner (b. ca. 1841) by Catawba County relatives and neighbors serving in the Confederate Army. Her cousins, P. Sydney Whitner and Daniel H. Whitner, both served in Company K, 35th North Carolina Infantry, as did A. Pinkney Ward. Julius Seitz served in Co. F, 23rd North Carolina Infantry.
