Shantilla May. 4th. 1863 [1]
friend John i now take
the oppertunity to rite you a
few lines to let you know
that i am well and hope that
you are the Same i received
your letter night before
last and was glad to hear
from you we have not moved
yet we had orders last night
to have 3 days rations all Cooked
i dont know how Soon we will
march we got payed the 30
of April i give 25 dollars
to Obrine to Send to you
he is going to washington
this morning to Send it
our Company has Sent over
three thousand dollars home
it is getting warm here the
trees are all blossomeding out

i dont know wheather we Shall
get home the 10th or 20th of June
i guess that we Shall get hom[e]
So as to work in haying.
the boys are all well there
is not much sickness in
out Camp now one fellow died
Since we Come here i dont know
what Company he belong to
we dont get eny news
So i cant write eny if
you get the money yourite
rite soon
