Camp of 2nd Maine Cavalry

Barraneas Fla April the 11th 1865
Friend John
I recieved your letter
Some time ago and have been
negclecting to Write to you
I am well and tough
part of our regiment are at Mobeal
they are fighting up there for I
can hear the guns down here
I think that our forces will get
it Soon for they have been fighting
for A week.
it is getting dull in Camp we
have been here So long that
I begin to want to get out
into the country where we
can get at Something to Steal
away from the rebels.
but i guess that they have
not got much to Steal now
I know that they havenot around here
for we have Stole all that they had

Charles Smith is in the
Hosiptal he is about the same
as he was when he Come back
he seems to be well enough
all except his neck.
John I want you to send
me some postage Stamps we can
get every thing that we want
but them I hate to have
to have aletter franked but
I have got to do it or not rite
that is what is the matter with the [cat?]
our regement have got to fight
Some now I guess there was 6
men wounded in Co. E. Since they
have been gone. a teamster in our
regement was walking by the side
of his wagon and the wheal Struck
a torpedo and it expload and
took the top of is head right squre of[f]
his name was Scibly of Co. G
the last that we heard of the detachement
that went out of our regt.

from Mobeal.
