Dear Father & Mother
As I have some spare time

the[y] is some a hovering
aroung like a fish hawk
redy to pounce on to
a small force if thay got
a good chance and dred to
I dont think think that
we shall have eny more
so hard battles as we have
[page 2]
had we have had some
hard fighting but as
luck would have it thay
have all turned out in
our favor that is all in
this vercinity and so for
I have got along without

three or fore letters since
the fight at Winchester and
have not herd a word
frome eny of you perhaps

let you know when I want
them the[y] is one thing
