Dear Sister
I have got a big sheet of paper
here and I mint write a big
letter if I could think of
anough to write but I dont
think that I shall be able
to think of anough to fill it
all up to night the first
thing that I shall tel you
is that I am well good
and well to we have
had some good news today
frome Gen Sheridan he
left here when I wase
to home with his Cavelery
and hase since joined
Gen Grant army and
the other day he captured
three brigades of infantry
and severl battrys
of artilery and a wagon
train and we have herd since
that he hase cut the
south side rail road out of
[page 2]
Richmond but the last report
is only a rumor and we
dont place much confidence
in it but the first is good
news Abby I do believe that the
ware is about over the
Confedarcy is about played out
I dont believe the fighting will
last two monts longer the
Rebles are getting hail Columbia
on every side lately I have
some hopes now the right
kind of peace Commishoners
are at work now and them
are Grant shurman and
Sheridan thay may talk
about the peace conferences
and peace comisheners as much
as thay are a mind to but
by the time the rebles have
had a few more beatings
frome Grant Shurman and
Sheridan thay will come
to some kind of terms and
thay cant none to quick
to suit me neather for I
have Soldiered about long enough
[page 3]
I haven havent herd yet
whether that money all
got thare or not I sent some
twise and I got a letter
frome Isabell and she said
that the[y] had some come but
I concluded that the last
fifty dollars had not got
thare then I sent off a
hundred and fifty the first
time and fifty the last time
and I should like to know if it
all got thare safe I have
got a watch and I am a good
mind to send that home
it is worth a little to
much to cary around here
it cost forty dollars and
one worth ten is just as
good for me as this is
I dont think that we shall
stop here long by the looks
of things the[y] is a review most
every day and that is
generally the case just before
a campain I dont care no
great about going but I think
[page 4]
that I can stand it if
nothing new takes place
I have wrote all the news that
I can think of this time I want
you to all write as often as you
can give my best respects
to all and ec: ec:
